Special Programs:
MDI develops and conducts programs to serve special needs of
children and adults with dyslexia.
Camp Starlight,
a summer camp, was developed in 1996. Campers learn about
dyslexia from staff and role models. They will build
self-esteem, social skills and confidence in their potential
while enjoying the outdoors.

Read to Succeed was organized in 1989 in
cooperation with the Wayne County Juvenile Court. Youngsters in
the juvenile justice system receive language evaluations and
specialized instruction from MDI instructors. Several court
staff members have been trained to identify and teach students
with dyslexia.
The Volunteer Teaching Program was established
in l990. The volunteers receive training at no cost. In return,
they provide instruction to students needing financial
assistance.
The Ronald E. Weger Scholarship Program was
established by the MDI Board of Directors as a special tribute
for his service, leadership, commitment and dedication to the
needs of persons with dyslexia. This fund provides financial
assistance for language evaluations, instruction and the
training of teachers in local communities.
